Quick Guide

Quick Guide

Your daily, step-by-step eye care protocol.

Key Steps

Things to Remember

  • If you only do one thing well, do heat.

  • Blepharitis is chronic — the goal is control, not cure

  • Most people don’t improve because they stop too early or do the basics poorly

  • Flare-ups need more attention. Heat 5-6 times a day, rather than 2-3.

Protocol

Protocol

  1. Heat the mask for ~1 minute (900W microwave)

  1. Place a dry face cloth over closed eyes, then the mask on top.
Heat should feel strong but safe — never burning.

  1. As it cools slightly, gently press with your hands

  1. When cooler again, remove the cloth and place the mask directly on eyelids - extends useful heat time

  1. Heat until mask cools down.

Repeat & Replace

Repeat & Replace

  • Repeat at least twice daily (≈10 minutes per session)

  • Replace face cloths every few days

  • Replace heat mask every 1–2 months

Step 3: Eyelid Wipes

Step 3: Eyelid Wipes

Protocol

Protocol

  • Use twice daily, after heat + massage

  • Wipe at the base of eyelashes, towards the outer corners of your eyes.

  • Use again if eyes feel gritty or irritated

Extra Tips

Lifestyle

  • Omega-3 supplements (many take 2+ daily)

  • Eat more oily fish / seafood

  • Sauna or steam (extra heat often helps)

Eye drops

  • Use if dryness is bothering you

  • Many people find heat matters more long-term than drops alone

Flare Up Routine

Common Flare Up Signs

  • Styes appearing

  • Lumps deeper with eyelids forming (chalazions)

  • Eyelid swelling or becoming red

What to change in your routine

  • Significantly increase frequency of heat - 5–6 sessions per day

  • Swelling usually improves first

  • Lumps can take weeks or months to fully resolve

If things worsen over several days

  • Consider over-the-counter antibiotic eye ointment (e.g. GoldenEye)

  • If no improvement, speak to a doctor

  • They may consider:

    1. Oral antibiotics (short- or longer-term)

    2. Steroid eye treatments

    3. Laser or in-clinic procedures (often private)

When it becomes urgent

Rapid swelling of the whole eye socket, spreading redness, or severe pain can indicate a serious infection.
